Bishop Bernard Fellay, the superior general of the Society of Saint Pius X has told the German weekly Tagespost (June 28) that Cardinal Gerhard M\u00c3\u00bcller wanted his group to be excommunicated but Francis refused.<\/p>\n

Fellay is still optimistic about an agreement with the Vatican, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The reconciliation will come.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

He said that conservative bishops want the Society to be recognized but the [rich but faithless] German bishops are very hostile.<\/p>\n

The Society’s relationship with Pope Francis is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153very good\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Fellay believes.<\/p>\n

He presented a handwritten document by Pope Francis which starts with the words \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Cher Fr\u00c3\u00a8re, cher fils\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201c \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Dear brother, dear son\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n

The Society will hold its fourth general chapter on July 11-21. The most important item on the agenda is the election of the superior general. Many believe that Fellay will again be elected.<\/p>\n
